The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) have assured the public of minimal disruption to electricity supply ahead of scheduled maintenance works by the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo).
In a statement issued on Saturday, January 17, 2026, GRIDCo said it had been formally notified by WAPCo of mandatory maintenance works on its gas facilities in Ghana, scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
As a result of the exercise, there will be a temporary interruption in gas supply to thermal power plants located in Tema during the maintenance period.
GRIDCo noted that the planned maintenance is necessary to ensure the safety, reliability and integrity of the gas supply infrastructure. The company assured the public that adequate alternative fuel arrangements have been put in place to ensure continuity of power generation and maintain a stable electricity supply throughout the duration of the works.
The statement added that stakeholders across the energy value chain will remain actively engaged and closely monitor the exercise to ensure its successful completion.
GRIDCo expressed regret for any inconvenience that may arise during the maintenance period and appealed to the public for understanding and cooperation. The statement was issued by the Corporate Communications Section of GRIDCo.
