The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has joined stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector to commission a new 6,000-metric-tonne Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Storage Terminal and witness the maiden delivery of LPG by MT Asharami Ghana.
The facility is expected to increase Ghana’s national LPG storage capacity and strengthen the country’s ability to maintain reliable supplies of the clean cooking fuel.
Speaking at the commissioning, Dr Jinapor said investments in LPG infrastructure were critical to the government’s efforts to expand access to cleaner cooking and improve energy security.
He noted that the investment would support the government’s target of achieving at least 50 percent LPG access nationwide by 2030.
According to the Minister, increased storage capacity will also help build resilience across the LPG supply chain and improve the availability of the product to consumers.
Dr Jinapor commended Asharami Ghana and Sahara Group for their confidence in Ghana and the investment in the country’s energy infrastructure.
He said the project would create additional opportunities in sectors including petroleum trading, logistics, transportation, distribution and other related services.
The commissioning forms part of ongoing efforts by the government and private sector operators to expand Ghana’s LPG infrastructure and improve access to cleaner energy for households and businesses.
