The Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, on behalf of the Sector Minister, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has led a working visit to the 141-megawatt AKSA Power Plant at Anwomaso to inspect ongoing commissioning works.
The visit forms part of the government’s broader efforts, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, to stabilise and enhance electricity supply to Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
During the inspection, engineers from AKSA and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) briefed the Deputy Minister on the phased integration of the plant into the national grid. The facility is designed to deliver a total capacity of 141MW, with a minimum guaranteed output of 120MW.
At the time of the visit, the first unit with a capacity of 47MW had been completed but was yet to be connected to the grid, as technical teams from AKSA and GRIDCo worked to finalise the tie-in process. Later the same day, the first unit was successfully commissioned and connected to the national grid.
The remaining two units are expected to be connected within a week, at a rate of one unit every two days, following the successful integration of the first unit.
Mr. Gyan-Mensah acknowledged the patience of residents who experienced temporary power interruptions during the critical tie-in phase and assured the people of Greater Kumasi and Ghanaians at large of the government’s commitment to addressing rising electricity demand.
He emphasised that the continuous expansion of generation capacity remains central to ensuring reliable power supply for homes, industries and other key sectors of the economy.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, he added, will continue to work closely with all sector agencies to guarantee stable and reliable electricity supply, particularly during the festive season and beyond.
