Energy Commission, Ghana Thermal Power Limited: Advance Talks on 1,200 MW Power Plant in Central Region

The Energy Commission of Ghana has held discussions with Ghana Thermal Power Limited (GTPL) on the company’s proposed 1,200 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant at Kafodzidzi-Abrobiano in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality, in the Central Region.
The talks form part of the Commission’s regulatory review of GTPL’s Siting Permit application, submitted under its licensing mandate.

Beyond boosting electricity reliability, the project is expected to lower generation costs, help reduce tariffs, and create more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs during its first phase, supporting regional development in line with the government’s commitment to strategic energy infrastructure that strengthens energy security and economic transformation, as reaffirmed in the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.

Reliable power. Sustainable development. A stronger energy future for Ghana.
