The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has sworn in the newly constituted Board of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, urging members to remain focused on the core mandate for which the Trust was established.
He charged the Board to prioritize critical areas such as public health, education and sanitation, as well as other interventions that directly improve the livelihoods of beneficiary communities.
The VRA Resettlement Trust Fund was established to enhance the quality of life in 52 resettlement communities through the implementation of socio-economic projects. These include the provision of educational, social, health and sanitation facilities, access to safe and reliable potable water, and economic empowerment initiatives aimed at strengthening livelihoods.
The Fund also addresses the broader socio-economic needs of the 52 resettlement townships created following the construction of the Akosombo Dam. These communities are located across six regions and span 20 districts in Ghana.
The Board is chaired by Mr. Halid Abdul Rauf and comprises Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Hon. Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, Hon. Dominic Napare, Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh, Dr. Seidu Mohammed and Ing. Samuel Fletcher.
