Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor Calls for Integrated Climate Action at 5th IRAD Conference

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has called for bold and integrated measures to address the growing impacts of climate change on water resources and national development.

Speaking at the 5th IRAD International Conference on Water Resources, Climate Change Resilience and Sustainable Systems, the Minister described it as an honour to address participants on the urgent need for coordinated climate action.
Dr. Jinapor noted that intensifying droughts, floods, and water scarcity require decisive policy responses and long-term planning. He outlined government’s ongoing efforts to advance the energy transition through the Renewable Energy and Green Transition Fund, expanded solar infrastructure, and the deployment of renewable mini-grids.

He also highlighted the approval of 200 megawatts of solar photovoltaic capacity with battery storage under L.I. 2508 as part of measures to strengthen Ghana’s renewable energy portfolio.

According to the Minister, government is deepening efforts to strengthen the energy–water–food nexus through nationwide solar-powered irrigation initiatives. He revealed that a target has been set to install 3,500 solar water pumps by 2029 to enhance food security and climate resilience.

Dr. Jinapor expressed optimism that through collaboration and sustained investment in sustainable systems, Ghana can build a water-secure, climate-resilient and prosperous future.
