Energy Minister Launches Electricity Market Oversight Panel to Strengthen Sector Stability

Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated a 10-member Electricity Market Oversight Panel (EMOP) tasked with safeguarding stability and efficiency within the country’s power sector.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister expressed confidence in the panel’s technical expertise and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing full support for its work. He also directed the members to conduct a comprehensive review of the operations, procedures, and manual of the wholesale electricity market.

Mr. Samuel Sarpong, who chairs the panel, pledged that the group will operate in strict adherence to the newly approved market rules alongside existing sector policies and regulations.

The EMOP is composed of seasoned professionals including Mr. Bernard Modey, Madam Eunice Biritwum, Kisman A. Eghan, Frank A. Yeboah, Richard N.A. Badger, Frank A. Otchere, Kwame Kpekpena, Mark Baah, and Dr. Shafic Suleman.
