Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), has inaugurated the newly constituted Board of the Petroleum Commission, charging its members with the urgent responsibility of revitalizing the country’s upstream petroleum sector.
The Minister underscored the board’s pivotal role in reversing declining oil reserves, boosting production, and restoring investor confidence, particularly among international oil companies.
“The challenges of the upstream industry have evolved over the years, with recent issues including arbitration disputes, dwindling oil and gas reserves, and an investment drought. Local content and participation, especially in exploration and production, remain key gaps,” Hon. Jinapor said. “I implore you to adopt pragmatic and strategic approaches so we can collectively find lasting solutions to these challenges.”
He further stressed the need for innovative strategies and stronger regulatory oversight to ensure the sustainable development of Ghana’s petroleum resources.
Responding on behalf of the new board, Chairman Mr. Ernest Thompson pledged their full commitment to the mandate. “We will work diligently and tirelessly to ensure Ghana’s oil production is enhanced, making a significant contribution to national growth and prosperity,” he assured.
