The Minister for Energy has held a productive meeting with the leadership of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union (GNPTDU) as part of ongoing stakeholder engagements aimed at strengthening Ghana’s energy sector.
The discussions centred on key issues affecting tanker drivers across the country, including welfare concerns, the establishment of a fair and structured salary regime, and the elimination of unlawful surcharges.
The Minister emphasized that these matters are crucial to ensuring stability and efficiency within the nation’s petroleum distribution chain. He also reaffirmed the indispensable role tanker drivers play in the national petroleum supply system, noting that their commitment guarantees the steady and reliable flow of fuel across Ghana, a vital component of the country’s economic and social stability.
To address the concerns raised, the Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and other relevant stakeholders, will develop a comprehensive framework to enhance the welfare of tanker drivers, improve operational efficiency, and promote long-term industrial harmony within the sector.
