Fire officers contain gas leakage at virgin petroleum station in Budumburam, near Accra

Firefighters from the Weija Fire Station on Wednesday, 11th February 2026, swiftly contained a gas leakage at Virgin Petroleum Company Limited, Buduburam.
The crew, responded promptly at 1356 hours to a distress call, arriving in good time to prevent a potential fire or explosion


Upon arrival, firefighters immediately evacuated workers, contractors, and nearby residents, secured the area by shutting down all potential ignition sources, and carried out intensive cooling operations to safely disperse the leaked gas.
The incident, said to have been caused by a damaged sprinkler during maintenance works that affected the return valve pipeline, was fully contained at 1452 hours without casualties.
