Ghana Energy Awards Honours Energy Minister Jinapor for Sector Transformation

The organisers of the Ghana Energy Awards have conferred a Special Award on the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and far-reaching reforms within Ghana’s energy sector.

The award, presented on Friday, acknowledges Dr. Jinapor’s role in stabilising the power system, revitalising the upstream petroleum industry, and accelerating the country’s transition toward renewable energy. His leadership has been credited with restoring investor confidence and attracting renewed interest from major international players in Ghana’s oil and gas sector.
In the power space, Dr. Jinapor’s policy direction is noted for contributing to the elimination of load shedding for much of 2025. This follows a turnaround from a 700 MW power deficit recorded in December 2024 — a shift industry observers attribute to improved planning, strengthened sector coordination, and decisive interventions.
Dr. Jinapor has also championed the expansion of Ghana’s renewable energy portfolio, positioning the country as an emerging leader in sustainable energy development.

The award was received on his behalf by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah.

Colleagues described the honour as a fitting recognition of Dr. Jinapor’s hard work and the significant progress achieved under his stewardship.
