Ghana is at risk of missing out on significant international funding opportunities to support its climate change efforts, including an estimated $25 million from the Africa Climate Change Fund.Despite the availability of financing from sources such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), bilateral government grants, private foundations like the Ford Foundation, corporate sponsors, and even crowdfunding platforms, many of these funds remain underutilized. Experts attribute this gap largely to limited knowledge and capacity among both organizations and individuals seeking support.
In the latest edition of the Business Facts series, PhD researcher Odelia Ntiamoah highlighted practical steps for Ghanaian organizations to tap into these opportunities. She advised applicants to carefully research specific programs, tailor proposals to align with funders’ priorities, demonstrate strong community engagement, and foster long-term relationships with foundations and partners.
She stressed that unlocking climate finance is not only about writing proposals but also about building credibility and aligning with global sustainability agendas.
