The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), has inaugurated a newly reconstituted board for the Energy Commission of Ghana on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Jinapor highlighted the strategic role of the commission in shaping the country’s energy future. He noted that Ghana is at a critical juncture, pointing to key priorities such as private sector participation in electricity distribution, advancing the green transition agenda, adopting gas as a transition fuel, implementing the liquid fuel-to-gas swap, competitive procurement of new generation capacity, and standardizing power purchase agreements (PPAs).
“The Energy Commission remains the principal advisor to government on power issues,” he said. “Your decisions will be central to building on the progress achieved, tackling existing challenges, and unlocking new opportunities in the sector.”
He further urged the new board to provide strategic direction and visionary leadership, stressing the need for boldness, innovation, transparency, and good governance.
Board Chairman Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, in his acceptance remarks, expressed appreciation to the President for the appointment and assured the Minister that the commission would align its work with government’s energy priorities.
