LEC RECEIVES 14,500 SMART METERS, 60,000 MORE EXPECTED

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — SEPTEMBER 21, 2026:

The Liberia Electricity Corporation, LEC, has received 14,500 smart meters as part of efforts to advance its Smart Metering Program.

The meters are part of a pilot initiative being implemented in Paynesville and its feeders, aimed at improving electricity metering, distribution 

efficiency and consumption monitoring.

LEC says an additional 60,000 smart meters are expected to arrive within a month, supporting the corporation’s planned expansion of the smart metering rollout.

The program is being implemented in partnership with SENAPT and is expected to improve customer metering, strengthen revenue protection, reduce commercial losses and help address illegal electricity consumption.

The corporation says the rollout is part of broader efforts to modernize Liberia’s electricity metering system and improve service delivery to customers.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation says the smart metering initiative is expected to play a key role in improving efficiency and accountability across the electricity sector.
