The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) is strengthening its strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Abdel Hadi Abdullah AlQahtani & Sons Group of Companies (AHQ Group) following a high-level visit to Ghana by senior executives of the group.
On Friday, September 12, 2025, top officials of the AHQ Group, accompanied by their local partners, the Special Group of Companies, held discussions with PHDC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Toni Aubynn, at the Corporation’s headquarters in Accra. The meeting was a follow-up to Dr. Aubynn’s earlier engagement with AHQ executives in Saudi Arabia last month.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Aubynn underscored the importance of the discussions, highlighting how preliminary talks in Saudi Arabia had laid the groundwork for a stronger partnership. He delivered a detailed presentation on the Petroleum Hub project, describing it as a transformational initiative poised to become the backbone of Ghana’s energy future while creating thousands of jobs.
He stressed the urgency of establishing a Petroleum and Petrochemical hub in Ghana, noting that Africa currently lacks a fully integrated hub, leaving the West African sub-region heavily dependent on external supplies.
In response, Mr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, CEO of the Special Group of Companies, praised Dr. Aubynn for his comprehensive presentation, which he said effectively outlined the vast investment opportunities within the hub project. He expressed optimism that the insights shared would guide both his organisation and the AHQ Group in shaping their investment strategy.
Mr. Abdulmalik Tariq Al-Qahtani, CEO of the AHQ Group, conveyed appreciation to Dr. Aubynn for his warm reception and candid insights into Ghana’s energy sector. He reaffirmed the AHQ Group’s commitment to collaborating with the PHDC in advancing the hub’s development.
Dr. Aubynn, in his closing remarks, reiterated PHDC’s dedication to facilitating the partnership, emphasizing its long-term commitment to ensuring the success of the Petroleum Hub.
Also present at the meeting were Onasis Kobby, Deputy CEO of Operations and Technical; Enoch Larbi, Director of Legal; Abigail Abrokwa, Senior Manager of Business and Development; and George Asante, Manager of Business Development.
