The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Dr. Toni Aubynn, has called for a balanced and equitable shift from fossil fuel dependence to renewable energy systems as Ghana advances its energy transition agenda.
Speaking at a stakeholder forum organised by A Rocha Ghana under the theme “Prospering with Nature: Transition Minerals and Trade-Offs in Ghana,” Dr. Aubynn emphasized the importance of pursuing a ‘just transition’ one that safeguards livelihoods while promoting sustainability
He outlined PHDC’s strategic commitment to integrating green energy initiatives into its operations, noting that the Corporation remains focused on responsibly harnessing Ghana’s hydrocarbon resources in line with environmental stewardship goals.
Dr. Aubynn also revealed that a significant portion of the Petroleum Hub project site has been designated as an ecological conservation park, adding that all ancillary infrastructure within the hub will be powered by solar energy as part of efforts to reduce the project’s carbon footprint.
The forum brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and environmental advocates to deliberate on how Ghana can balance natural resource exploitation with ecological preservation and sustainable development.
