Preparations Advance for 9th Ghana Energy Awards as Awarding Panel ConvenesJuly 17, 2025

Preparations for the ninth edition of the Ghana Energy Awards are gaining momentum, with the Awards Secretariat and the Awarding Panel officially commencing deliberations ahead of the event.

A key milestone in this year’s awards cycle took place on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, when the Awarding Panel held its inaugural meeting at the Secretariat’s Head Office in the SSNIT Emporium, Airport City, Accra.

The panel, comprised of esteemed figures across academia, public policy, law, and the energy industry, has the crucial responsibility of guiding the evaluation process and shaping the direction of this year’s awards. The meeting is expected to play a significant role in refining criteria and ensuring the awards remain aligned with current sector dynamics.

Leading the panel is Lawyer Kwame Jantuah, a respected legal expert and governance commentator. Joining him are several distinguished professionals, including:

  • Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, economist and international evangelist
  • Dr. Kwame Ampofo, former Board Chair of the Energy Commission
  • Dr. Jemima Nunoo, former Director at GIMPA’s Centre for Management Development
  • Professor Felix Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation, and Development at the University of Ghana

This year’s edition is especially noteworthy, being the first since the recent transition in Ghana’s national leadership. In anticipation of the awards, a series of stakeholder consultations were carried out to reflect evolving governance priorities and sector performance indicators.

“The insights gathered from our engagements with industry players over the past few months have been invaluable,” said Ing. Henry Teinor, Event Director of the Ghana Energy Awards. “They’ve helped shape our understanding of both the challenges and innovations emerging across the energy value chain. Expectations for this year’s awards are understandably high.”

The panel’s opening session served as a strategic platform to analyze stakeholder input, review existing award categories, and finalize the framework for the 2025 edition.

Chairman Jantuah emphasized the importance of this phase:
“This first meeting enables us to critically assess shifts in the sector and ensure the awards remain responsive to real-world developments. Our objective is to uphold standards that are both aspirational and achievable.”

Looking ahead, the official Media Launch of the 9th Ghana Energy Awards will take place in the coming weeks. The launch will reveal this year’s theme, categories, and open the window for nominations.

The Ghana Energy Awards is proudly endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, its affiliated agencies, and the World Energy Council Ghana.
