Sierra Leone Signs Reconnaissance Permit with Eni, Marking Major Step for Upstream Sector

The Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone (PDSL) has announced the signing of a Reconnaissance Permit Agreement with Eni S.p.A., one of the world’s leading energy companies — a move hailed as a major milestone for the country’s upstream oil and gas sector.

The agreement underscores President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s agenda to promote economic diversification, sustainable energy development, and increased private sector investment in Sierra Leone’s extractive industries.

In a statement, the PDSL reaffirmed its commitment to fostering responsible partnerships that will unlock the nation’s offshore energy potential and contribute to long-term national prosperity.

Key figures involved in the development include PDSL Director General Foday Mansaray, energy sector leaders Zainu Deen Karim, NJ Ayuk of the African Energy Chamber, Dan Maggs, Matthew H., Ishmael Momoh, and TGS representatives.

The partnership signals renewed investor confidence in Sierra Leone’s upstream prospects and aligns with the government’s broader vision for sustainable energy-driven growth.
