SPE Africa Strengthens Regional Collaboration at ATCE 2025

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Africa Region intensified efforts to strengthen professional development and energy innovation across the continent during a regional meeting held on October 21, 2025, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, USA. The engagement brought together more than 100 African regional officers on the sidelines of the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE 2025).

SPE Africa Regional Director, Dr. Riverson Oppong, reiterated the region’s commitment to elevating Africa’s voice within the global energy community. He referenced the recent success of the Africa Technology Conference 2025, which convened over 500 delegates from Africa, the Middle East, and the United States, as a clear indication of the region’s growing influence and potential.

A panel session featuring industry leaders focused on boosting the resilience and financial independence of African SPE sections. Panelists discussed domestic resource mobilization, innovative fundraising models, and strategic partnerships as pathways to sustained regional growth and self-reliance.

The gathering also outlined priorities for the year ahead, with key technical and capacity-building initiatives planned. Major events scheduled for 2026 include the Africa Technology Conference, the Africa Geothermal Workshop, and the Africa Annual Student Conference—platforms expected to drive technical excellence and support sustainable energy development across the continent.
