The Coalition of Commercial Transport Operators, representing over 90% of commercial drivers nationwide, has strongly opposed the recently announced GH₵1 levy on every litre of fuel purchased.
In a press statement, the Coalition described the levy as “retrogressive and insensitive,” criticising its implementation without proper consultation with key stakeholders in the transport sector. They argue that such a policy, rolled out amid rising operational costs, would further burden both operators and commuters.
The Coalition is calling for the immediate suspension of the fuel levy and is demanding a transparent and inclusive dialogue involving all legitimate and recognised transport unions. They also condemned what they referred to as “selective and backdoor engagements” with groups allegedly aligned with the ruling government.
