Eni Ghana and its Joint Venture (JV) partners have formally declared the commercial potential of the Eban-Akoma hydrocarbon discoveries located in the Cape Three Points Block 4 (CTP-B4) offshore Ghana. This move marks a pivotal advancement toward full-scale development of the oil and gas fields.
The Declaration of Commerciality, officially submitted on July 3, 2025, follows a successful appraisal campaign that validated the viability of the Eban-1X oil discovery and Akoma-1X gas and condensate find. The JV consortium comprises Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd (operator), Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd (Explorco).
Eni Ghana is now set to collaborate closely with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Petroleum Commission, and the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition on the formulation of a comprehensive Plan of Development (PoD) for the twin discoveries.
Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, described the announcement as a landmark moment for the country’s energy landscape.
“This declaration underscores the tremendous promise of our offshore resources in strengthening energy security, driving industrial growth, and transforming our economy,” the Minister remarked.
The forthcoming PoD is expected to detail strategies for maximizing hydrocarbon recovery, enhancing local content participation, and aligning development with national energy objectives. Ghanaian authorities have pledged to provide continuous regulatory oversight to ensure the project proceeds transparently and in line with the country’s long-term energy vision.
