9th Ghana Energy Awards: Theme and Award Categories Announced

The 9th Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) has officially opened nominations, unveiling this year’s theme:

“Repositioning the Energy Sector as a Pillar of National Development.”

Organisers say the theme is a call to action for stakeholders to harness Ghana’s energy potential as a driver of industrialisation, while addressing persistent challenges through innovation, reform, and collaboration.

Entries are open across 32 award categories, spanning both competitive and honorary honours, covering the period 2024–2025. Submissions outside this timeframe will not be considered.

COMPETITIVE CATEGORIES

  1. Energy Personality of the Year
    The flagship award, recognising outstanding individuals (male and female) for leadership, innovation, and lasting contributions to Ghana’s energy development.
  2. CEO of the Year (Power & Petroleum)
    Celebrating exceptional organisational leaders whose vision and management have delivered growth and operational excellence.
  3. Visionary Leadership Award
    Honouring forward-thinking leaders who anticipate industry needs and align strategies with Ghana’s long-term energy goals.
  4. Outstanding Local Content Initiative of the Year
    For projects that advance inclusive participation, skill transfer, and local business empowerment.
  5. Energy Company of the Year (Power, Petroleum & Renewable)
    Recognising companies that excel in resilience, governance, innovation, and sustainability.
  6. Energy Institution of the Year
    Awarded to public agencies, think tanks, academic institutions, or NGOs that have shaped policy, advanced sector knowledge, or driven capacity building.
  7. Emerging Female Leader in Energy
    Highlighting mid-career female professionals making strides in leadership and gender inclusion.
  8. Rising Star (Individual – Male & Female)
    Celebrating young professionals (18–35 years) demonstrating exceptional promise and impact.
  9. Rising Star (Company)
    For young companies under 10 years old, showing rapid growth and innovation.
  10. The Energy Signature Award
    Honouring individuals with at least 10 years of sector contributions and transformative influence.
  11. Chief Green Trailblazer Award
    For champions of Ghana’s clean energy transition and sustainability agenda.
  12. Downstream Company of the Year
    Recognising excellence in petroleum service delivery, efficiency, and compliance.
  13. Energy Reporter of the Year
    Celebrating journalists whose work has deepened public understanding of energy issues.
  14. Innovation Project of the Year
    For groundbreaking projects tackling key sector challenges.
  15. Energy Think Tank of the Year
    Recognising research and policy advocacy that shapes national energy discourse.
  16. Energy Advocate of the Year
    For individuals influencing policy, ethics, and public dialogue.
  17. Energy Sector Operational Resilience Award
    Recognising companies that thrived despite significant operational challenges.
  18. Energy Investment Impact Award
    For donors, financiers, and institutions whose investments have transformed the sector.
  19. Excellence in Power Generation
    Awarding reliable, efficient, and environmentally sound energy producers.
  20. Clean Energy Initiative of the Year
    For impactful projects advancing decarbonisation and sustainability.
  21. Off-Grid Energy Solution of the Year
    Recognising projects bringing sustainable electrification to underserved communities.

  23. CSR Initiative of the Year
    Recognising impactful corporate social responsibility projects.

    Recognising regional leaders influencing energy access, policy, and cooperation across West Africa.
  32. Energy Sector Reformer of the Year
    For visionary leaders driving bold reforms that enhance sustainability and transparency.
