The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced it will phase out the use of aluminium “Drive from Port” (DP) number plates at all ports of entry across the country, starting August 1, 2025.
In a move aimed at improving service delivery and enhancing security, the Authority will roll out digital DP sticker numbers to replace the traditional aluminium plates. The new system has already been piloted successfully at the Tema and Takoradi ports.
According to the DVLA, the transition forms part of a broader effort to streamline operations, reduce fraud, and make the vehicle clearance process more efficient and user-friendly for importers and the general public.
