Star Oil Maintains Fuel Prices for First Pricing Window of September

Accra, Ghana – September 1, 2025
Star Oil, a leading player in Ghana’s downstream oil sector, has maintained the prices of its petroleum products for the first pricing window of September 2025.
The decision comes amidst a cautiously balanced market outlook, as noted in the September report by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC). The report highlights that while supply management and geopolitical risks offer some price stability, economic softness and structural growth in renewable energy limit the potential for price increases in the short term.

COMAC also pointed out that during the period from August 12 to August 26, the Ghanaian cedi experienced a substantial depreciation against the US dollar, shifting from GHS 10.771 to GHS 11.2001. This marks a 3.98% decline, the largest recorded since the beginning of the year. This depreciation has largely influenced the price adjustments in the sector.
Despite international product prices for crude oil, petrol, diesel, and LPG seeing declines of 3.69%, 0.45%, 3.74%, and 1.73% respectively, COMAC forecasts that the depreciation of the cedi will lead to an increase in ex-pump prices. Petrol, diesel, and LPG prices are projected to rise by 3.86% to 5.40%, 1.22% to 3.39%, and 2.43% to 4.57%, respectively.
The report further emphasizes that while international product prices have softened, the depreciation of the cedi and recurring supply shortages—particularly in petrol—have played a significant role in driving up the cost of petroleum products at the pump.
