Energy Minister Assures PSWU of Broad Consultations on Proposed EC–PURC Merger

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition has held discussions with representatives of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) following concerns raised by workers over the proposed merger of the Energy Commission and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

At the engagement, the Minister assured the union that government would not proceed with any merger without extensive consultations and the broad consensus of all key stakeholders.

He explained that while ongoing power sector reforms are intended to enhance efficiency and strengthen regulatory oversight, such changes would not be imposed without sustained dialogue, transparency, and mutual understanding.

The Minister further emphasized government’s commitment to continuous engagement with organised labour, including the PSWU, and other stakeholders as deliberations on the proposed merger continue, noting that consensus-building will remain the guiding principle of the process.
