The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has received one million barrels of Ghana’s indigenous Jubilee Medium Sweet Crude, describing the development as another major milestone in the ongoing revitalisation of the country’s only state-owned refinery.
The crude cargo, delivered aboard the MT Apache on July 15, 2026, fulfils President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that crude oil produced in Ghana is refined locally to maximise value for the country.
In a statement issued on July 16, 2026, TOR said the latest shipment is the second one-million-barrel consignment of Ghanaian indigenous crude supplied to the refinery under President Mahama’s leadership. The first was delivered in December 2016 aboard the MT Bodeira during his first term in office.
According to the refinery, the latest delivery reflects the President’s longstanding commitment to strengthening Tema Oil Refinery and advancing his vision of building an integrated petroleum value chain for Ghana.
TOR noted that the Jubilee cargo is the third one-million-barrel crude shipment received by the refinery since May 2026, following deliveries of Bonga and Baleine crude. It said the three cargoes have enabled the refinery to sustain the production of petroleum products for both domestic consumption and regional markets, thereby enhancing Ghana’s energy security, promoting industrialisation and supporting value addition.
The Board, Management and Staff of TOR expressed appreciation to President Mahama for what they described as his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the revival of the refinery, saying his continued support has inspired the organisation to pursue operational excellence.
The refinery also commended the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, for his strategic leadership and continuous support, which it said have been instrumental in restoring refining operations and ensuring a reliable supply of crude oil to the facility.
TOR further thanked its partners across the petroleum value chain, including crude suppliers Fujeirah and Triangle Trading Commodities, regulators, financiers, logistics providers and technical partners, for their collaboration in supporting the refinery’s resurgence.
The refinery reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government’s vision of strengthening the link between Ghana’s upstream and downstream petroleum sectors, creating jobs, enhancing energy security, reducing dependence on imported refined petroleum products and positioning Ghana as a competitive refining hub in West Africa.
