Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry is set to swap the boardroom for the playing field as companies across the sector converge at the Burma Camp Sports Complex for the 2026 Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) Petroleum FUN Games (PETFUN).
The two-day sporting event is scheduled for September 11 and 12, 2026, with activities beginning at 7:00 a.m. on both days.
The annual games bring together Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketing Companies (LPGMCs), Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), regulators and other stakeholders for a mix of sporting competition, networking and wellness activities.
The 2026 edition comes on the back of a highly competitive event last year, when companies battled for honours across football, volleyball, swimming, table tennis and several recreational disciplines.
Star Oil, Huss Petroleum set for title defence
Star Oil will head into this year’s competition as the reigning Overall Best Company after topping the 2025 standings.
Huss Petroleum, meanwhile, will seek to retain its football crown after emerging champions in last year’s competition, with Star Oil finishing as runners-up.
Ghana Gas Company was also recognised at the 2025 games, winning the Most Organised Company award.
The competition, however, went beyond the major team sports, with participants taking part in swimming, cards, ludu, checkers, sack races, lime and spoon, apple chewing and tug of war.
The variety of events has helped make PETFUN a major fixture on the downstream petroleum industry calendar, giving employees from different companies and age groups an opportunity to compete and interact.
Strong competition expected
Last year’s results highlighted the depth of sporting talent across the industry, with several companies picking up honours in different disciplines.
GOIL PLC recorded strong performances in swimming and the men’s sack race, while the National Petroleum Authority featured prominently in volleyball, table tennis and the women’s sack race.
Other participating organisations, including Misa Energy, IBM Petroleum Limited, PETROSOL Platinum Energy, Zen Petroleum, Tema Fuel Company, So Energy, Xpress Gas, JP Trustees, Benab Oil, Life Energy and MM Energy, also secured positions in various individual and recreational events.
With the honours spread across several companies last year, the battle for supremacy in the 2026 edition is expected to be closely contested.
More than just competition
Beyond the trophies and medals, PETFUN provides an opportunity for workers and industry stakeholders to interact in a more relaxed setting.
Employees who routinely engage with one another on issues ranging from petroleum pricing and regulation to supply chains and commercial operations will have the chance to build relationships through sport and recreation.
The 2026 games are therefore expected to combine competition with team building, fitness, networking and camaraderie across Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The COMAC PETFUN Games 2026 will be held at the Burma Camp Sports Complex on September 11 and 12, starting at 7:00 a.m. each day.
