The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has hosted an eight-member delegation from Zambia’s energy regulatory sector as part of a technical study visit aimed at examining Ghana’s downstream petroleum regulatory systems and best practices.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Zambian delegation to gain insights into Ghana’s experience in petroleum regulation, including fuel pricing, product quality assurance, monitoring, compliance and the use of mystery shopping to safeguard the integrity of petroleum products.
NPA Chief Executive Officer, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo Esq., shared insights into the Authority’s regulatory innovations and approaches to ensuring efficiency, transparency and compliance within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The delegation also explored Ghana’s systems for fuel marking, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) regulation, inspections, audits and enforcement as Zambia reviews and strengthens its energy policies and legislation.
The engagement highlights the growing importance of peer learning, knowledge exchange and institutional collaboration in strengthening energy regulatory frameworks and promoting best practices across Africa.
The study visit is expected to deepen cooperation between the two countries’ regulatory institutions and provide opportunities for both sides to share experiences in addressing emerging challenges in the petroleum sector.
