MONROVIA, LIBERIA October 26, 2026.

The President of the Petroleum Importers Association of Liberia, Madam Esther Neufville, has welcomed the groundbreaking of a new 50,000-metric-ton petroleum storage facility in Monrovia, describing the project as a major step towards strengthening Liberia’s energy security and promoting economic growth.

Madam Neufville was sharing her thoughts during the dedication of the newly constructed petroleum testing laboratory and the groundbreaking ceremony for the storage facility at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC).

In an address, she said the project represents a significant milestone in Liberia’s downstream petroleum sector, particularly for importers who have faced longstanding storage challenges affecting operations and business expansion.

She noted that the additional storage capacity will help address these challenges, improve petroleum supply management and create opportunities for greater efficiency across the downstream petroleum industry.

Madam Neufville also commended the management and Board of Directors of the LPRC for their vision and commitment to tackling the country’s petroleum storage constraints.

She highlighted the contributions of members of the Petroleum Importers Association, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between public institutions and private-sector operators in strengthening Liberia’s petroleum industry.

The association’s president noted that improved storage infrastructure is particularly important especially during a time of global petroleum market uncertainties and supply challenges, which can affect the availability and cost of petroleum products.

Madam Neufville stressed the need for continued adherence to industry standards, safety requirements, and transparency, adding that a stable and well-regulated petroleum sector can help protect investments and build business confidence.

She said sustained cooperation among industry stakeholders is essential to ensure that the project delivers lasting benefits to the Liberian people.

She was optimistic that the development would open new opportunities for investment, economic growth and national prosperity.
