COMAC, GNFS Strengthen Collaboration on Fire Safety in Downstream Petroleum Sector

Accra, September 30, 2026 — The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has engaged the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to strengthen collaboration on fire safety, emergency preparedness and risk management within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

The engagement focused on deepening institutional cooperation between the two organisations, including discussions on establishing a structured quarterly or semi-annual engagement framework.

The proposed framework is expected to provide a platform for regular dialogue, early identification of safety risks, knowledge sharing and improved coordination in emergency preparedness and response across the downstream petroleum industry.

COMAC was represented by its CEO and Industry Coordinator, Dr. Riverson Oppong, alongside Ing. Billey-Abdullah Al-Assad, Head of Compliance and Operations; Adjoa Baah Akuffo, Esq., Head of Administration and Human Resources; and Mohammed (Mo) Issah, Director of Policy and Regulations.

The GNFS delegation was led by DOI Michael Korsah and Hawawu Musah, Esq.

The engagement forms part of COMAC’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships aimed at improving safety standards, regulatory compliance, operational resilience and the protection of lives and assets within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

The two institutions are expected to build on the discussions through continued engagement focused on fire prevention, emergency preparedness and coordinated response mechanisms.
