COMAC Projects Up to 9.63% Increase in Fuel Prices From September 16

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) is projecting increases in ex-pump prices for petrol, diesel and LPG from September 16, 2026.

According to COMAC, petrol prices are projected to rise by between 7.75% and 9.63%, while diesel prices could increase by 4.26% to 6.97%. LPG prices are also expected to rise by between 0.85% and 3.22%.

COMAC attributed the projected adjustments to rising global crude oil and refined petroleum product prices, which have recorded significant increases on the international market.

Average crude oil prices rose by 12.29% to US$104.01 per barrel, crossing the US$100 mark for the first time since May. The increase was driven by renewed geopolitical tensions, including vessel attacks in the Gulf, heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, Houthi advances and attacks, as well as disruptions to global supply.

All refined petroleum products also recorded increases, with petrol rising by 13.21%, diesel by 7.50% and LPG by 16.42%.

COMAC said the closure of the East-West pipeline has placed about four million barrels per day of supply at risk, further pushing crude oil prices higher amid Saudi Arabia’s closure of a major crude oil pipeline.

On the domestic front, the Ghana cedi depreciated by 1.01% to GH¢11.4849 to the US dollar, based on average bank rates between August 27 and September 11, 2026.

COMAC noted, however, that government-industry intervention would continue to moderate the expected increase in diesel prices.

The projected adjustments form part of the pricing outlook for the September 16, 2026 petroleum pricing window.
