StarOil Leads Corporate Support for GBC with Full TV Licence Payments for Employees

StarOil has demonstrated strong corporate support for public service broadcasting by paying the TV licence fees of all its 2,700 employees to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).
The company says the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening GBC’s mandate to promote national unity, cultural values, and socio-economic development through radio and television services.
StarOil has further pledged to continue the gesture annually — with a cheque of not less than GHS 160,000 expected to be presented in the first week of January 2026 to cover the next year’s subscriptions.
At a brief presentation ceremony, Mr. Selorm Tettey-Quapedu, Operations Manager of StarOil, said the company wants to set a benchmark for other firms to support the national broadcaster.

“We thought it wise to ask all our staff across the country — about 2,700 of us — to support in paying their TV licence. We wish everyone would support the campaign,” he stated.
Mr. Tettey-Quapedu also urged GBC to improve content offerings, especially in sports broadcast rights.
“We want to view our matches on GTV,” he emphasized.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Corporation, Professor Amin Alhassan, Director-General of GBC, expressed deep appreciation to StarOil for what he described as a timely and patriotic intervention. He noted that public service broadcasting remains costly, making the TV licence campaign crucial for sustaining GBC operations.
The Director of Television at GBC, Ms. Akushika Acquaye, also commended StarOil for its support and assured the public of continuous improvements in programming and viewer experience.
As a token of gratitude, the Head of the Marketing Department at GBC, Mr. George Lomotey, offered the StarOil team 50 slots of free advertising on all GBC platforms until the end of November 2025
GBC is encouraging other corporate institutions to follow StarOil’s example by fulfilling their civic responsibilities to strengthen national broadcasting.
