The Chief Executive Officer of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Edmund Kombat, has been named the Energy Sector Recovery Programme (ESRP) Champion of the Year 2026 by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
Mr Kombat received the recognition at the Ministry’s annual retreat held at Volta Serene in the Volta Region, where energy sector leaders reviewed the achievements and challenges of 2026 and outlined strategic priorities for 2027.
In expressing his appreciation, the TOR CEO commended President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership and commitment to revitalising Ghana’s energy sector.
He also acknowledged the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, and the Ministry’s leadership and staff for their guidance and support towards the revival of TOR.
Mr Kombat further dedicated the award to the refinery’s Board of Directors, management and staff, describing the recognition as a reflection of their collective commitment, resilience and determination to restore the facility to its position as a strategic national asset.
He attributed the progress made by TOR, including the completion of critical turnaround maintenance works and the resumption of crude oil refining, to the dedication and collective efforts of the refinery’s workforce and stakeholders.
According to him, the recognition serves not only as an honour but also as a renewed call to duty as the refinery prepares for the next phase of its recovery.
He said TOR remained committed to improving operational efficiency, strengthening Ghana’s energy security, creating local value and contributing to the country’s economic transformation.
Mr Kombat stressed that although progress had been made, efforts to build a stronger, more efficient, commercially sustainable and globally competitive refinery would continue.
He dedicated the award to the entire TOR workforce and stakeholders who remain committed to the vision of revitalising the refinery, adding that the recognition would further motivate the company to pursue operational excellence and deliver tangible results.
