Energy Minister Calls for Greater Investment and Performance in Petroleum Sector

Energy Minister Dr John Jinapor has joined the management, staff and stakeholders of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for the corporation’s 3rd Annual General Meeting.

Dr Jinapor commended the Board, management and staff of GNPC for their efforts and achievements in 2025, urging them to build on the progress in 2026 through decisive leadership, increased investment, improved performance and greater value creation for Ghanaians.
He said the government was taking steps to review the fiscal and regulatory framework governing the petroleum sector to make Ghana a more attractive destination for investment while protecting the interests of the Ghanaian people.

According to him, the review will include amendments to the GNPC Act to ensure that the country’s legal and institutional framework supports investment, efficiency, growth and value creation.
Dr Jinapor noted that Ghana is witnessing positive signs of renewed growth in oil and gas production in 2026, signalling a reversal of the decline recorded since 2019.
He therefore called on industry players to build on the positive developments by accelerating field development, appraisal and exploration activities.

He also urged stakeholders to address infrastructure bottlenecks and work towards creating a more predictable and competitive investment environment to attract and retain investment in the sector.
The Energy Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting GNPC, the Petroleum Commission and industry operators as government works with stakeholders to unlock the full potential of Ghana’s petroleum resources.
He said stronger collaboration among key players would be critical to ensuring that the country derives greater economic benefits from its oil and gas resources.
