EnerSynk Group’s 500 MW Solar Project Reaches Major Milestone in Zambia’s Copperbelt

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA

EnerSynk Group’s planned 500 MW utility-scale solar project in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province has reached another major development milestone following a special meeting of the Masaiti District Development Coordinating Committee focused on the project’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.

The US$519 million project is being developed by EnerSynk Solar Energy Limited across approximately 610 hectares in the traditional area of Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Malembeka. The milestone follows EnerSynk Group’s signing of a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with ZESCO Limited.
Jason Temasfieldt, Founder and Executive Chairman of EnerSynk Group, said:

The milestone follows EnerSynk Group’s signing of a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with ZESCO Limited.

Jason Temasfieldt, Founder and Executive Chairman of EnerSynk Group, said: “We have always said that this project must be about more than generating electricity. EnerSynk is a climate infrastructure company focused on three fundamental needs: energy security, water security and food security. “Our ambition is to create jobs, strengthen communities and deploy technologies that contribute to Zambia’s long-term resilience.”

The project is expected to create approximately 1,200 jobs during construction, together with additional employment opportunities during operations.

Masaiti District Commissioner Ennie Matutu has emphasised the importance of local participation and environmental protection as development progresses.

“Let us preserve nature even as we seek to develop our District,” the District Commissioner said.

In support of that objective, EnerSynk plans to deploy its FORESTA Algae Forest systems alongside the development.

FORESTA uses microalgae to capture CO₂ and help remove airborne pollutants while releasing oxygen and producing organic biomass such as spirulina. According to EnerSynk’s technology specifications, one Algae Forest unit can capture up to 14 tonnes of CO₂ annually, with carbon-capture performance equivalent to approximately 700 mature oak trees.

EnerSynk also plans to introduce atmospheric water-generation technology capable of producing drinking water from humidity in the air.

“The atmosphere contains more than six times as much water as all of the world’s rivers combined,” Temasfieldt said. “We want to use technology to turn that largely untapped resource into a decentralised source of clean water.”

Once completed, the 500 MW development is expected to rank among Zambia’s largest utility-scale solar projects and contribute substantial renewable generation capacity to the national electricity system.

Eric Ngatia, President, Africa & MENA at EnerSynk Group, said: “Zambia has the resources, the people and the ambition to become an important clean-energy and climate-infrastructure market in Africa. “Our focus now is execution. We are committed to working with Government, ZESCO, ZEMA, traditional authorities, communities, investors and technical partners to deliver infrastructure Zambia can be proud of.”

EnerSynk will continue advancing environmental and regulatory processes, technical development, project financing and implementation planning.
