Jinapor Calls for Stronger Regional Electricity Trade in West Africa

Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has called on ECOWAS member states to strengthen regional electricity trade to improve energy security and promote economic growth across West Africa.

Speaking at the opening of the 16th Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers in Charge of Energy, Dr Jinapor emphasised the need to prioritise energy security, affordability, accessibility and sustainability as key pillars for regional integration and sustainable development.
He urged fellow energy ministers to deepen cooperation by encouraging member states to trade more electricity among themselves to enhance the efficient use of available energy resources across the region.
Dr Jinapor stressed that stronger regional energy collaboration would help build a more resilient and interconnected electricity market, supporting economic growth and improving access to reliable and affordable power.

He noted that a more energy-secure West Africa would be better positioned to achieve deeper regional integration, shared prosperity and sustainable development.
