The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has called for a renewed focus on transforming Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector as the Petroleum Commission marks its 15th anniversary.
Dr Jinapor made the call when he officially launched the Commission’s 15th Anniversary celebrations, commending the institution for its significant contribution to the regulation and development of Ghana’s petroleum industry over the past 15 years.
He said the Petroleum Commission had played a critical role in strengthening regulatory oversight, promoting local content, attracting investment and ensuring the responsible development of the country’s petroleum resources.
According to the Minister, the next phase of the sector’s development must focus on revitalising upstream activities, increasing exploration and production, strengthening Ghanaian participation, deepening gas development and strategically preparing the country for the energy transition.
“The next 15 years must be about transformation; from participation to capability, from contracting to ownership, and from creating opportunities for Ghanaian companies to building globally competitive Ghanaian businesses,” he said.
Dr Jinapor further stressed the need for Ghana to maximise the value of its petroleum resources while positioning local companies and professionals to play a more significant role across the industry’s value chain.
He congratulated the Petroleum Commission, its past and present Boards, Management and staff for reaching the milestone, expressing confidence that the next 15 years would usher in increased investment, stronger Ghanaian participation and improved energy security.
He also expressed the hope that the Commission’s continued work would contribute to building a more sustainable and resilient energy future for Ghana.
