Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has engaged the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and other key stakeholders on the implementation of government’s decision to reduce the price of diesel by GHS2 per litre.
The intervention follows a directive by President John Dramani Mahama aimed at cushioning consumers from the impact of high fuel prices and easing the cost burden on households and businesses.
The GHS2 per litre reduction will take effect for one month in August 2026 and will be reviewed during the period, taking into consideration prevailing market conditions and other relevant economic factors.
Dr Jinapor said the measure demonstrates government’s commitment to protecting consumers while maintaining stability and sustainability in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
He said government would continue to closely monitor developments in the petroleum market and take pragmatic measures to safeguard the interests of Ghanaians.
The engagement with the NPA and other stakeholders is expected to ensure the smooth implementation of the intervention and minimise any disruptions within the downstream petroleum value chain.
