Liberia Renewable Energy Forum Calls for Stronger Coordination and Unified National Energy Goals.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA, October 22, 2026.

Liberia’s energy sector institutions are calling for stronger coordination and a unified national strategy to accelerate renewable energy development and expand access to reliable electricity nationwide.

The call was made at the Liberia Renewable Energy Knowledge and Partnership Forum 2026, held on Wednesday, October 21, at the Corina Hotel in Monrovia.

The one-day forum was organized by the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the LEAP Network, the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa, and the National Off-Grid Task Force subcommittees.

Participants discussed challenges facing the energy sector, shared ongoing initiatives, and explored ways to expand access to sustainable and affordable energy services.

Presentations from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Liberia Electricity Corporation, the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Liberia Solar Association, the LEAP Network, and the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency highlighted the need for a coordinated national approach to energy development.

The forum recommended establishing common national energy targets, strengthening institutional collaboration, enforcing sector regulations, and improving the quality and standards of energy products entering the Liberian market.

Participants also emphasized the importance of moving away from fragmented, project-by-project implementation towards a unified strategy with shared priorities and measurable goals.
At the conclusion of the forum, participating institutions committed to working together to implement the recommendations and translate discussions into practical actions.

The initiative is expected to contribute to expanding renewable energy access, improving electricity services, and supporting Liberia’s broader national development agenda.

The forum marks another step towards building a more coordinated, reliable, sustainable, and inclusive energy sector in Liberia.
