Workshop on Industrial Involvement in Ghana’s Nuclear Power Programme Opens in Accra

A four-day workshop aimed at boosting local participation in Ghana’s nuclear power programme has commenced in Accra.

The event, organized by Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG) with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is bringing together key players from local industries to discuss opportunities within Ghana’s nuclear power project. The workshop focuses on raising awareness and preparing industries to actively participate in the supply chain during both the construction and operational phases of the planned nuclear power plant.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Director of NPG Dr Stephen Yamoah underscored three priority areas:

  • The need for industries to prepare well ahead of time,
  • The review of national policies on local participation to include nuclear, and
  • The development of standards and codes that align with nuclear industry requirements.

According to NPG, the initiative is a strategic step toward ensuring that Ghana’s nuclear programme delivers broad benefits strengthening local industries, creating jobs, and driving long-term economic growth.
