The Director General of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation ROSATOM Alexey Likhachev, has emphasized Russia’s commitment for the development of partnership relations within the BRICS communities and an extensive youth program as key strategies to promote nuclear energy globally. Russia’s state atomic energy corporation, Rosatom, is spearheading efforts for the adoption of nuclear power as the foundation for the world’s green energy future. Mr. Likhachev was speaking during the opening of the 2025 World Atomic Week International Forum in Moscow. The celebration is also coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry. The atomic week celebration is the world’s largest international platform for nuclear cooperation, bringing together leaders from nuclear-developing countries, government agencies, industry giants, scientists, and journalists to explore the peaceful uses of atomic energy.‘’It is a great pleasure, a great honour and a great responsibility to organize a discussion on the development of nuclear technologies and the creation of a happy future for our planet here in Moscow during world atomic week. Much of what will happen here will be for the first time. This includes the global atomic forum, the development of partnership relations in the field of atomic energy within BRICS and an extensive youth programme. Our task is to step together into tomorrow where there will be no alternatives to the use of nuclear energy as the basis of green energy. We sincerely thank our partners for their trust. We will do everything possible to justify this trust’’ Mr. Likhachev declared.
Sergey Kirienko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, on his part said nuclear energy is an industry with very long cycles, calling for deep mutual trust. He said modern nuclear power plants have a life span of about 100 years. He said the agreements reached at the World Nuclear Week will shape the fate of planet earth for at least the rest of the century. ‘’ Russia and Rosatom, have always followed this principle: building long-term, trusting relationships with our partners, readily sharing technologies and expertise, creating joint ventures, and working together in third-country markets. We are convinced that this is how modern technologies should be developed to bring prosperity, security, and well-being to people all over the world – not through restrictions, embargoes, or sanctions. Mr. Kirienko stated.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Mariano Grossi, Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, and other dignitaries also took part in the official opening ceremony.
