Fuel Prices Up Again as OMCs Adjust Pump Rates

Accra: Fuel prices at the pumps have gone up again as more Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) adjust their rates, effective Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The increases follow earlier projections of a hike from mid-September, driven mainly by exchange rate pressures.

Market leader Star Oil announced on social media that petrol is now selling at GH¢13.17 per litre, up from GH¢12.77 at the start of the month. The company attributed the increase to developments on the international market and the depreciation of the cedi, assuring customers that any future relief in market conditions will be passed on. Diesel remains unchanged at GH¢13.45 per litre.

Shell, meanwhile, adjusted prices over the weekend. Diesel now sells at GH¢14.18 per litre, while petrol has been revised down slightly to GH¢13.44, after rising to GH¢13.59 earlier this month.
Some OMCs, however, say they may hold off on price changes until October 2, citing competition during the current pricing window.

Last week, GOIL Ghana’s second-largest OMC was the first to increase prices, raising petrol to GH¢13.38 from GH¢12.99 and diesel to GH¢14.20 from GH¢13.90.
What’s Driving the Increases?
The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) attributed the hikes largely to the sharp depreciation of the cedi. The currency weakened by 7.76% during the review period, falling from GH¢11.20 to GH¢12.07 per US dollar, bringing its year-to-date losses to 14.02% one of the steepest globally, according to Bloomberg.
COMAC noted that while global crude and refined product prices actually fell petrol by 2.52%, diesel by 4.12%, and LPG by 2.69% the cedi’s decline offset those gains, making domestic price hikes unavoidable.
