The Secretariat of the Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) has released the official shortlist for the 2025 edition of the highly regarded national awards scheme, with EnergyCrossroad.com earning a prominent place among this year’s contenders.
More than 500 nominations were received during the submission period from 9 September to 31 October 2025—one of the highest in the scheme’s history. The surge in entries, including a significant number of first-time applicants, reflects the growing recognition of excellence and innovation within Ghana’s dynamic energy sector.
This year’s awards feature several competitive categories, including Energy Personality of the Year, Chief Executive of the Year (Power and Petroleum), Chief Green Trailblazer Award, Emerging Female Leader in Energy, and the Energy Sector Operational Resilience Award.
A major highlight is the Energy Reporter of the Year category, where EnergyCrossroad.com has secured a place on the prestigious shortlist through the nomination of Emmanuel Aboagye-Wiafe, whose work has distinguished the platform as one of the rising voices in Ghana’s energy journalism landscape.

The GEA Secretariat emphasised that the shortlist followed a rigorous vetting and multi-stage evaluation process, including detailed reviews, validation checks, and nationwide site visits conducted by the Awarding Panel. The meticulous approach, they noted, was essential to ensuring fairness and maintaining the scheme’s reputation for integrity and transparency.
The 2025 edition is themed “Repositioning the Energy Sector as a Pillar of National Development,” underscoring the sector’s expanding role in driving Ghana’s socio-economic advancement through innovation, reforms, and strategic partnerships.
Industry anticipation is now rising ahead of the Awards Night, scheduled for Friday, 28 November 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The event is expected to bring together top policymakers, regulators, CEOs, industry specialists, and innovators for a celebration of leadership and outstanding contributions to the sector.
It will be recalled that Emmanuel Aboagye-Wiafe, the host of Energy 101 on Asaase 99.5 Accra, won the ‘Energy Reporter of the Year’ at the 2023 Ghana Energy Awards in Accra. In 2024 Emmanuel was also acknowledged by Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation as the Best African reporter in Nuclear Energy.
Organised by the Energy Media Group, the Ghana Energy Awards is endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and its agencies, the World Energy Council (Ghana), and receives independent validation from Forvis Mazars and Casely Brooke Law Firm.
