The state-of-the-art facility has an annual production capacity of 750,000 smart meters and is expected to significantly reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported meters. The initiative aligns with government’s strategic objective to ensure that all electricity meters used in the country are sourced locally.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Jinapor underscored the critical role metering plays in the electricity supply chain, noting that Ghana has for years depended heavily on imported meters to meet domestic demand. He stressed that promoting domestic manufacturing and strengthening local industrial capacity are vital steps toward building a more resilient energy sector.
The Minister further emphasised the importance of public-private collaboration in achieving national energy goals. He stated that government cannot attain its energy transition and sustainability targets alone, highlighting the need for strategic partnerships with credible private investors.
Dr. Jinapor commended MBH Power Ghana Ltd. for its investment, describing the partnership as a demonstration of shared commitment to reliability, innovation, and national development.
The commissioning of the facility is expected to boost local content, create jobs, and enhance efficiency within Ghana’s power distribution value chain.
