The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has recognised the contribution of Dr. Edwin A. Provencal to engineering education through the BOST–UMaT Engineering Scholarship Initiative, established during his tenure as Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
The initiative provided scholarship opportunities for 50 academically promising but financially needy students to pursue engineering-related programmes at UMaT. The beneficiaries were drawn from communities affected by BOST’s operations, with the first cohort identified for the 2021/2022 academic year.
The scholarship was structured as a four-year support package covering tuition, accommodation or stipends, and laptops. Contemporary reports valued the package at approximately GH¢1.5 million.
The programme was intended to reduce financial barriers to tertiary education while supporting the development of skilled professionals in engineering and related fields.
It also formed part of BOST’s corporate social responsibility efforts, linking educational support to communities impacted by the company’s operations and creating opportunities for young people to access engineering education.
UMaT’s recognition of Dr. Provencal highlights the role of the initiative in supporting students and contributing to the development of Ghana’s future engineering workforce.
The BOST–UMaT scholarship initiative provided 50 students with four years of educational support, representing a significant investment in engineering education and human capital development.
