The Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), Dr. Riverson Oppong, has underscored the importance of promoting mental well-being and supportive workplace cultures within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
Dr. Oppong made the remarks when he led a delegation from COMAC to participate in the GOIL PLC HSSEQ Week celebration, held under the theme “Promoting a Positive Psychosocial Working Environment.”
The event brought together industry stakeholders to reflect on critical workplace issues and deepen understanding of the link between physical health, psychological well-being, workplace safety, and organisational performance.
Addressing participants, Dr. Oppong commended GOIL PLC for its leadership in prioritising employee welfare and advancing health, safety, security, environment, and quality standards.
He noted that safety within the petroleum industry must go beyond physical protection to also include mental health, open communication, responsible leadership, and creating workplaces where employees feel respected, secure, and empowered to raise concerns.
According to him, organisations that build people-centred work environments are more likely to improve alertness, accountability, and overall safety outcomes.
Dr. Oppong further stated that a positive psychosocial workplace culture enhances productivity, teamwork, staff morale, and long-term organisational success.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the GOIL PLC HSSEQ Employee Handbook, which the company described as a milestone in strengthening standards in employee welfare and operational excellence.
COMAC commended GOIL PLC for organising what it described as a timely and impactful initiative aimed at championing employee well-being across the downstream petroleum sector.
