The ministry of energy and green transition says
in the last 24 hours, the country has experienced widespread power interruptions beyond the isolated pockets of outages. The Ministry’s Spokesperson in a Facebook message said this was triggered by a fire explosion at the Akosombo substation, a critical facility within our power generation and transmission network.
“As we speak, no power is being generated from Akosombo, resulting in a loss of approximately 1,000 megawatts to the national grid”. The Ministry’s Spokesperson Richmond Rockson stated. He said this sudden shortfall has placed significant strain on the system and is the main cause of the broader interruptions currently being experienced.
“Our engineers and technical teams are on site and working around the clock to restore generation as quickly and safely as possible.
We therefore appeal to the public to bear with us during this period”. Rockson explained. He assured that Government remains committed to restoring full power generation.
Widespread power interruptions have been recorded across the country over the past 24 hours following a fire explosion at the Akosombo Substation, a key facility in Ghana’s power generation and transmission network.
Authorities say the incident has halted electricity generation from the Akosombo Dam, leading to the loss of approximately 1,000 megawatts from the national grid.
The sudden power shortfall has placed considerable pressure on the system and has been identified as the main cause of the widespread outages currently affecting several parts of the country.
Engineers and technical teams have been deployed to the site and are working around the clock to restore generation safely and as quickly as possible.
Government has appealed to the public for patience and understanding while efforts continue to stabilize the power supply and restore full generation capacity.
