The Chief Executive Officer of the Tema Oil Refinery, Edmund Kombat, has participated in the 2026 Stakeholder Conference organised by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), where government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the performance and accountability of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
The conference, led by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, formed part of efforts under the government’s economic reset agenda to reposition SOEs as drivers of national development.
Representing the refinery in his capacity as Managing Director, Mr Kombat joined other industry stakeholders to deliberate on critical reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and financial sustainability across the sector.
In her address, the Vice President highlighted the pivotal role SOEs play in managing strategic national assets, generating revenue, and creating employment. She, however, acknowledged persistent challenges, including operational inefficiencies, financial losses, and weak accountability systems.
Discussions at the conference focused on ongoing reforms spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance Ghana in collaboration with SIGA. These include strengthening corporate governance frameworks, enforcing performance contracts, improving transparency, and reviewing the State’s equity portfolio to drive better returns and strategic investments.
Participants also underscored the importance of the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) as a benchmarking tool to promote excellence, with this year’s awards expected to recognise top-performing institutions.
For the Tema Oil Refinery, the engagement reinforces its renewed commitment to operational excellence and its role in supporting Ghana’s industrial and energy transformation agenda, in line with government’s vision of repositioning SOEs as engines of shared prosperity.
