The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has inspected ongoing shutdown maintenance works at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant in the Western Region, expressing confidence in the progress made so far.
The plant, a key pillar of Ghana’s energy infrastructure, is undergoing scheduled maintenance to boost efficiency, reliability, and processing capacity. According to the Minister, the facility’s output will soon be expanded from 100 million to 120 million standard cubic feet of gas per day a development expected to accelerate government’s Gas-to-Power agenda and ensure stable, affordable electricity supply.
Hon. Jinapor further revealed that government has initiated processes for the construction of a second Gas Processing Plant, reinforcing its commitment to long-term energy security and sustainability.
Reflecting on recent sector performance, the Minister noted significant improvements since he assumed office. “In December 2024, just before I became Energy Minister, we were shedding close to 700 megawatts. For months now, there has been zero load shedding, and we are even exporting power to neighbouring countries. That is real progress,”* he stressed.
The inspection underscores government’s broader vision to strengthen Ghana’s energy sector and deliver a resilient power future for the nation.
