Delivering opening remarks on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s delegation set the tone for the 7th African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) National Oil Companies CEOs Forum held in Accra.
The address underscored APPO’s role as a critical platform for collaboration among Africa’s national oil companies, ensuring the continent’s voice and priorities are firmly represented on the global energy stage.
With the global shift toward clean energy in focus, Ghana stressed that Africa’s path must be defined by a just and equitable transition.
“For Africa, this transition must be fair, equitable, and reflective of our unique circumstances. We must prioritize universal energy access and ensure that our citizens benefit directly from the resources we own,” the remarks highlighted.
The statement further emphasized Africa’s right to responsibly harness its natural resources through strategic, sustainable, and sovereign choices.
The call to action charged CEOs of national oil companies across the continent to take ownership of Africa’s energy future:
“The future of Africa’s energy must be written by Africa, for Africa.”
The Accra gathering brought together industry leaders to deliberate on energy security, investment, and collaboration at a time when the continent is navigating the dual challenge of meeting development needs while aligning with global climate commitments.
